Frequently asked questions

What method of payments can I use?

Only VISA, MASTERCARD, AMEX and Debit Cards can be used for payment.  We also accept Basics Card Debit Card (Extra $200 Bond required for all Debit Cards).  We do not accept Cash, Cheques, DINERS CLUB and EFTPOS Cards.

Do you hold a security deposit to hire the car?

We pre-authorise a $300 security bond on your credit card on all vehicle rentals.

When do you charge my credit card?

We collect your details and charge your credit card on the day of vehicle pick up.

What documents do I need when collecting my rental car?

A current driver’s licence and credit or debit card are all you need.

What age do I need to be to rent a vehicle?

Drivers need to be a minimum age of 21 years old and hold a full, unrestricted Australian driver’s licence to hire a vehicle.

Do you charge for cancellation?

No, we don’t charge you for cancelling your booking, please call us on (08) 8985 1013 or email to enquiries@territorycarhire.com.au 48 hours before vehicle pick up to cancel confirmed reservation.

How do I amend or cancel my booking?

Are we able to pick up and drop off vehicles at the airport?

All our rental vehicles are located at our Coconut Grove office which is 4km from the Darwin International Airport.  We provide FREE airport shuttle pick up and drop off (Pre-arranged).  Contact (08) 8985 1013 or email enquiries@territorycarhire.com.au to pre-arrange this service.

You may also choose to return the vehicle direct to the Darwin International Airport at an additional $23 fixed fee during normal business hours or $40 fixed fee after hours.

Do you hire baby and booster seats?

We have baby and booster seats available at $11 per day.  This can be added when you are booking online as optional extras.

The baby seat will be fitted in the vehicle, but we ask that you triple check, to guarantee the safety of your child.

Do I have to pay for fuel?

You need to pay for any fuel that you use.  We supply a full tank and expect that you’ll return the vehicle with a full tank. If you don’t, we charge $2.50 a litre for fuel.

Can I take my vehicle off-road?

No, we don’t allow any of our vehicles to be used off-road and penalties apply.

What times are you open?

Operating times are 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 3pm on Saturdays.  Cars can be picked up and dropped off outside of these hours (After Hours Fees may apply).

Sunday and Public Holiday operating times are 9am to 12pm.

Cars can be dropped off direct to Darwin airport anytime 24 hours, 7 days a week (Fees may apply).

Can I collect and return my vehicle after hours?

Yes, we can pre-arrange for cars to be collected and returned after hours.  Please call us on (08) 8985 1013 or email enquiries@territorycarhire.com.au to arrange after hours pick up and drop off.  (After hours fees may apply)

What do I do in an event of an accident or collision?

If you require emergency assistance, please dial 000.  If you find yourself in a difficult situation, give us a call on (08) 8985 1013 and we’ll advise you on what to do next.

What happens if the rental is stolen?

If this happens, we ask that you call the police and report it to our office immediately.

Will I be charged for kilometres driven?

Only if you go over the 250 free kilometres that we allocate you each day.  Extra Kms are charged at $0.30 cents per kilometre.

Do I have to pay late fees for a late return?

Hopefully not!  We give you a one-hour grace period just in case you get caught in traffic.  If you’re more than an hour late we will charge you one full day’s rental and a further full day’s rental at the daily rate specified on the agreement, including liability waivers and additional extras until the vehicle is returned to us.

Where are your rental boundaries? How far can I travel?
You can travel as far south as Mataranka on the Stuart Highway and as far Southwest as Katherine Hot Springs on the Victoria Highway.  You can contact us for special permission to travel outside these boundaries.
Are your rental cars new?

Yes, you can be guaranteed that all our vehicles are the latest models and kept in top condition.

Do you have automatic or manual cars for hire?

All our cars for hire are automatic in all classes of vehicles.
